My grandma and grandpa are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next month. When they got married, they COULDN’T AFFORD wedding rings, so this vow renewal was going to be extra special—they were finally going to get THEIR FIRST wedding rings.
I asked my grandma to go to the jewelry store while I was at work to choose the rings. I planned to buy them the next day as a surprise gift. She was so excited and promised to find something beautiful.
That evening, I came home expecting to hear all about the rings she had chosen. Instead, I found my grandma looking upset, her eyes wet with tears. I immediately asked her what happened, and she revealed the most infuriating story.
She went to a well-known jewelry store downtown and found a ring she absolutely loved. She asked the sales assistant if she could try it on. The assistant, with a look of pure disgust, said, “Oh, just watch. DON’T TOUCH IT. Only people who can afford jewelry can try it on!”
My grandma just left the store in tears. I was livid. I decided this sales assistant needed to learn a valuable lesson.
